A New Era in America 2006 Dec 09 2011

"The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it work- whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer be yes, we intend to move forward. Were the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us will manage the public dollars will be held account, to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day, because only then we can restore the vital trust between people and their government."

I interpret  this quote as no the American government is not working because the president is  attempting to pass laws to extend unemployment for families, health care, tuition and retirement funds in this recession and congress only pass laws they want to see in affect now.. President Obama is fixing a country with a economic crisis since 2007. Due to differences between political parties laws that need to be pass are being rejected due to the greed of the republican party. they cannot put the needs of the working class American first. it is sad to see our country falling behind while other countries are moving forward away from recession. The crime recession is intolerable forcing the average person to steal to find food and provide for their families how can we trust the government went they are failing us tremendously. we need vital trust that at this point is not there. Only then we will be able to sleep fine like the president and congress leaders. At this point were not willing to spend any unnecessary money and not know how we going to eat, sleep, or keep our head above water. The government is not willing to decrease taxes at this point, our money supplies is low, and debt crisis. Perhaps the country will go into another recession before we get bailed out hopefully it won't happen but at this point it looks like a reality

November 18 W.E.B DuBois

1. African American is more sensitive to the gap between our inner essence because spirituality is within us but our external appearance judge your character verses what on the inside.
2. poor white and black bonded together to escape and rebel so our history is inseparable.
3. The color line is the most pressing problem of the 20th century according to Dubois since it can create hostile behavior in a work place that is majoity white with a black boss. it shape characteristic of one;s race
4.The south is considered a marginal region due to the holocaust of enslavement to our children, both psychological and sexual our ancestors experienced.
5. Low wages damage the work ethic because it creates oppression racism by keeping black separated you can't make capital without racism since they go hand in hand.
6.Church is a important institution in the African American communities because it creates spirituality and a sense of belonging they built strong organization within the church..
7. Fatalism is a belief that the event occur due to faith.
8. sensualism means the character of one who is sensual and since their both a belief fatalism does not justify one behavior to be sexual.
9.the emancipation of the Jewish nation from Egypt. In the latter part of Genesis Jacob's whole family had settled in the Goshen area of Egypt. This family of seventy people was the root of the Hebrew nation - the twelve sons of Jacob. the bible shows family packing up and moving to be separated from an entire community one can get a sense of inequality.

Henry Demarest Lloyd November 11 2010

"No great idea is ever lost". The greatest of human ideas is democracy. It is has often disappeared, but it has never been lost. We have democratized religion, and the humblest men have equal rights with all others to find the Almighty within themselves, without the intervention of a privileged class. we have nearly finished democratizing kings, and we are now about to democratize the millionaire.Under absolutism the people mend their fortunes by insurrection. Under popular government they start, a new party. All over the world, wherever popular government exists with its provisions for peaceful revolution instead of violent revolution.

I think the greatest idea to human is equality and freedom. When is America going to wake up from their greed and create fairness for the human race.  Imagine what NY would be like if we had freedom from our government violence. When are we going to get justice for the people who are suffering in American from hunger, poverty, and  no jobs. Everyday we spread liberty around to other countries what about the people here on our own soil. After all we were founded on the rules of Liberty. They say we have the right to elect our government so is it fair to say when they don't get the job done why we the people can't get them throw out of office. As a whole we need to find common ground and create equality not just with the government alone but mainly among society.

I choose this quote because it seems like everyday is a fight for equality and freedom in our everyday lives. You have a choice to be free but at the same time our government dictate our live with equality that sometimes doesn't seems fair.

Abraham Lincoln November 4 2011

"The Almighty has his own purposes". Woe into the world because of offenses for it must needs be that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh. If we shall suppose that American slaver is one of those offenses which in the providence of God, must needs come but which, having continued  through his appointment time, He  now wills to remove, and that he gives to both North and South this terrible war".

Even though Lincoln attended church he was a fatalist and believe in eternal justice. Yet at the same time he criticizes the church because he believe that they neglected the importance of the love of god. But most of all the practical obedience. He hated slavery because its the ugliness in the bondage of slavery. How is it morally right to tell your fellow people how much you despise slavery but yet you still allow slavery to exists Our nation was born into liberty and justice for all men but not Black men. Who gives you the right to discriminate against humanity regardless of the color of their skin. Turn around and say the war is testing our faith on equality and can we stand separated.  I believe Mr. Lincoln used God as a way to end slavery because of his vision to turn the country around but at the same time its playing with God. Back in those days the nation as a whole was very strong on religion that was their hope that the nation will turn around. Til  this day our government used faith and religion as a way to play on people moral value and how can God bless our nation that sometimes are corrupt and destroys the lives of their people.

Frederick Douglass October 28 2011

First, then we have the free soil, or republican party. This is a powerful party, so far as numbers and influence is concerned, and it sweeping over the country with restless efficacy. what are its characteristics? The principle which imparts vitality to the republican organization is simply the non-extension of slavery. It motto is "no slavery outside the slave states." It propose to restrict slavery, and keep it within what is called its constitutional limits.

Am interpreting the free soil to be the split during the 1840's between the people who wanted slavery and the one's who oppose it. so the democratic was against slavery while the republican support slavery.  The republican was so powerful back then and still is to this day it sweep the entire nation like a disease. They did not want the slave to mess up their capital..At the time New York and Pennsylvania were free states while Maryland and Virginia were slaves states.I think it was amazing to see how close the states where and people were still fighting for equality.  The length the government will go through back then was very excessive. Now that some of the states were free Douglass pushes for equality and education among minority. It was double standard because the thirteenth amendment prohibited slavery, fourteenth granted citizenship and the fifteenth the right to vote. While the republican party didn't support black.

I choose this quote because Fredrick Douglass help to shape the American nation we live in today that we can live comfortable with the few equal rights we have this day. Still minority are still fighting for equality among jobs, school, and community. He believe in woman's right to shape society. That was very powerful because woman in those days were not consider of value

Alexander Hamilton

A successful economy would produce sufficient revenue for the government to discharge its obligations, maintain order, and foster the expansion of commerce"

Since Alexander Hamilton predicted this quote from the 1800 and its affecting us in today's economy the government is not doing a good job maintaining order and create businesses. So is it fair to say that the government is not discharging its commitment faithfully. Our economy is not getting any better and the American people are loosing faith in the government.

I choose this quote because the government can do must better to help businesses create job so the American people can go back to work and boost our capital back.

Midterm Questions

Do you believe that the death penalty should be considered a violation of the constitutions ban on cruel and unusual punishment?

2. In what year was slavery outlaw in the northern states?

3. How many years did the republican control the government before 1932.

4. What is bureaucracy?

5. What is the difference between liberals and conservatives?
