"The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it work- whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer be yes, we intend to move forward. Were the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us will manage the public dollars will be held account, to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day, because only then we can restore the vital trust between people and their government."
I interpret this quote as no the American government is not working because the president is attempting to pass laws to extend unemployment for families, health care, tuition and retirement funds in this recession and congress only pass laws they want to see in affect now.. President Obama is fixing a country with a economic crisis since 2007. Due to differences between political parties laws that need to be pass are being rejected due to the greed of the republican party. they cannot put the needs of the working class American first. it is sad to see our country falling behind while other countries are moving forward away from recession. The crime recession is intolerable forcing the average person to steal to find food and provide for their families how can we trust the government went they are failing us tremendously. we need vital trust that at this point is not there. Only then we will be able to sleep fine like the president and congress leaders. At this point were not willing to spend any unnecessary money and not know how we going to eat, sleep, or keep our head above water. The government is not willing to decrease taxes at this point, our money supplies is low, and debt crisis. Perhaps the country will go into another recession before we get bailed out hopefully it won't happen but at this point it looks like a reality

November 18 W.E.B DuBois
1. African American is more sensitive to the gap between our inner essence because spirituality is within us but our external appearance judge your character verses what on the inside.
2. poor white and black bonded together to escape and rebel so our history is inseparable.
3. The color line is the most pressing problem of the 20th century according to Dubois since it can create hostile behavior in a work place that is majoity white with a black boss. it shape characteristic of one;s race
4.The south is considered a marginal region due to the holocaust of enslavement to our children, both psychological and sexual our ancestors experienced.
5. Low wages damage the work ethic because it creates oppression racism by keeping black separated you can't make capital without racism since they go hand in hand.
6.Church is a important institution in the African American communities because it creates spirituality and a sense of belonging they built strong organization within the church..
7. Fatalism is a belief that the event occur due to faith.
8. sensualism means the character of one who is sensual and since their both a belief fatalism does not justify one behavior to be sexual.
9.the emancipation of the Jewish nation from Egypt. In the latter part of Genesis Jacob's whole family had settled in the Goshen area of Egypt. This family of seventy people was the root of the Hebrew nation - the twelve sons of Jacob. the bible shows family packing up and moving to be separated from an entire community one can get a sense of inequality.

Henry Demarest Lloyd November 11 2010
"No great idea is ever lost". The greatest of human ideas is democracy. It is has often disappeared, but it has never been lost. We have democratized religion, and the humblest men have equal rights with all others to find the Almighty within themselves, without the intervention of a privileged class. we have nearly finished democratizing kings, and we are now about to democratize the millionaire.Under absolutism the people mend their fortunes by insurrection. Under popular government they start, a new party. All over the world, wherever popular government exists with its provisions for peaceful revolution instead of violent revolution.
I think the greatest idea to human is equality and freedom. When is America going to wake up from their greed and create fairness for the human race. Imagine what NY would be like if we had freedom from our government violence. When are we going to get justice for the people who are suffering in American from hunger, poverty, and no jobs. Everyday we spread liberty around to other countries what about the people here on our own soil. After all we were founded on the rules of Liberty. They say we have the right to elect our government so is it fair to say when they don't get the job done why we the people can't get them throw out of office. As a whole we need to find common ground and create equality not just with the government alone but mainly among society.
I choose this quote because it seems like everyday is a fight for equality and freedom in our everyday lives. You have a choice to be free but at the same time our government dictate our live with equality that sometimes doesn't seems fair.

Abraham Lincoln November 4 2011
"The Almighty has his own purposes". Woe into the world because of offenses for it must needs be that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh. If we shall suppose that American slaver is one of those offenses which in the providence of God, must needs come but which, having continued through his appointment time, He now wills to remove, and that he gives to both North and South this terrible war".
Even though Lincoln attended church he was a fatalist and believe in eternal justice. Yet at the same time he criticizes the church because he believe that they neglected the importance of the love of god. But most of all the practical obedience. He hated slavery because its the ugliness in the bondage of slavery. How is it morally right to tell your fellow people how much you despise slavery but yet you still allow slavery to exists Our nation was born into liberty and justice for all men but not Black men. Who gives you the right to discriminate against humanity regardless of the color of their skin. Turn around and say the war is testing our faith on equality and can we stand separated. I believe Mr. Lincoln used God as a way to end slavery because of his vision to turn the country around but at the same time its playing with God. Back in those days the nation as a whole was very strong on religion that was their hope that the nation will turn around. Til this day our government used faith and religion as a way to play on people moral value and how can God bless our nation that sometimes are corrupt and destroys the lives of their people.

Frederick Douglass October 28 2011
First, then we have the free soil, or republican party. This is a powerful party, so far as numbers and influence is concerned, and it sweeping over the country with restless efficacy. what are its characteristics? The principle which imparts vitality to the republican organization is simply the non-extension of slavery. It motto is "no slavery outside the slave states." It propose to restrict slavery, and keep it within what is called its constitutional limits.
Am interpreting the free soil to be the split during the 1840's between the people who wanted slavery and the one's who oppose it. so the democratic was against slavery while the republican support slavery. The republican was so powerful back then and still is to this day it sweep the entire nation like a disease. They did not want the slave to mess up their capital..At the time New York and Pennsylvania were free states while Maryland and Virginia were slaves states.I think it was amazing to see how close the states where and people were still fighting for equality. The length the government will go through back then was very excessive. Now that some of the states were free Douglass pushes for equality and education among minority. It was double standard because the thirteenth amendment prohibited slavery, fourteenth granted citizenship and the fifteenth the right to vote. While the republican party didn't support black.
I choose this quote because Fredrick Douglass help to shape the American nation we live in today that we can live comfortable with the few equal rights we have this day. Still minority are still fighting for equality among jobs, school, and community. He believe in woman's right to shape society. That was very powerful because woman in those days were not consider of value

Alexander Hamilton
A successful economy would produce sufficient revenue for the government to discharge its obligations, maintain order, and foster the expansion of commerce"
Since Alexander Hamilton predicted this quote from the 1800 and its affecting us in today's economy the government is not doing a good job maintaining order and create businesses. So is it fair to say that the government is not discharging its commitment faithfully. Our economy is not getting any better and the American people are loosing faith in the government.
I choose this quote because the government can do must better to help businesses create job so the American people can go back to work and boost our capital back.

Midterm Questions
Do you believe that the death penalty should be considered a violation of the constitutions ban on cruel and unusual punishment?
2. In what year was slavery outlaw in the northern states?
3. How many years did the republican control the government before 1932.
4. What is bureaucracy?
5. What is the difference between liberals and conservatives?

Benjamin Rush
Benjamin Rush
"But let the young Negroes be educated in the principles of virtue and religion let them be taught to read and write and after wards instructed in some business, where by they may be able to maintain themselves. Let laws be made to limit the time of their servitude, and to entitle them to all the privileges of free-born British subjects. At any rate let retribution be done to god and to society."
Benjamin was just an ordinary man who saw the suffering of the slaves and he oppose slavery.while alive Rush fought for freedom for the slaves. He believe in the rights of education even for the Negroes which will help to improve the economy back then. Everyone has the right to free public education. He fought for them the right to gain knowledge thru reading and writing. If they were able to maintain their servitude their liberty will determine their way of life. He was also strong on black religion.
I choose this quote because some people don't take education seriously and we sometimes forget how important education is in this world where living in today. Our education will determine our children future for the next generation and will help to break struggles that our ancestor helped to create.

Hamilton is also in favor of creating a national bank, the first bank of the United States. The bank would help accomplish Hamilton's two major goals of building up business and industry in the United States. The bank, under the control the government, would give the government leverage and influence over the business sectors. Business would benefit because a bank as large as this would be able give out huge loans that the state banks could not, and would satisfy the need for large concentrations of capital or financing needed for industrial growth.
I think that Hamilton was trying to stabilize the economy for generation to come by creating national banks. He also was focusing on how to eliminate national debt by paying them off in full and raising taxes. By establishing national bank under federal reserve system the government will be able to control the nation wealthy and boost the business industry. All states will be under one currency exchange, policies and will be able to maintain loans in the commercial banks sector. This take place in Philadelphia which at the time was the largest cities in the world. State bank at the time didn't have that kind of money to lend out.
I choose this quote because the government and the bank goes hand in hand with each other because the federal government hold's one fifth of the bank's total stocks and have to produce reports to the secretary of the treasury thanks to Sir Hamilton. The bank also help to ensure the government that our economy is growing by creating jobs and loans to businesses.

James Madison's
" The instability injustice and confusion introduced into the public councils, have in truth, been the moral diseases under which popular governments have everywhere perished ; As they continue to be the favorite and fruitful topics from which the adversaries to liberty derive their most specious declamations."
Derive to come from a certain source
Adversaries involving antagonistic party
Specious seeming to be genuine
declamation to deliver in the manner of a formal speech
Everyone is always complaining about equality rights for our citizens that our governments are too unstable. Sometimes they even go as far as saying that the councils don't care about the public good. Since the competitive parties measures are decided not by the rules of the justice or the rights of the minor party but by the superiors force of the majority party. Their consider moral disease because the majority have the upper hand in the public council. I choose the quote because even in today's society the president is still fighting for the minority party but the majority party always rule in favor of the wealthy class.

On Liberty
"The great questions that have troubled the country are about the authority of the magistrates and the liberty of the people."
Since the magistrates is the highest form of government that enforce the law and sentence those that are guilt of a crime. The country wants to see to it that the liberty of the people are not violated. Our liberty to govern ourselves according to our free will but to take responsibility for or actions. It is morally right to punish someone for breaking the rules that are set before us. It is a way to stabilized the country and the liberty of the people. After all the magistrates doesn't elect themselves the people of the country do. You cannot always agree with their decision but you must obey their rulings.
I choose this quote because often time we the people see magistrates abusing their power. Sometime they don't always make the right decision but we need to be more careful who we select to represent the people.

What I Saw In America
One of the questions on the paper was 'Are you an anarchist:?' To which a detached philosopher would naturally feel inclined to answer, 'What the devil has that to do with you?' Are you an atheist?' along with some playful efforts to cross-examine the official about what constitues an apnx{Greek: arche } Then there was the question, ' Are you in favour of subverting the government of the United States by force?' Against this i should write, 'I perfer to answer that question at the end of my tour and not the beginning.' The inquisitor in his more than morbit curiosity, had then written down, 'Are you a polygamist?' The answer to this is. 'Not such a fool.' according to our experience of the other sex. But perhaps a better answer would be that given to W.T Stead when he circulated the rhetorical question, 'Shall I slay my brother boer?' _the answer that ran, 'Never interfere in family matter.' But among many things that amused me almost to the point of treating the form thus disrespectfully, I like to think of the foreign desperado, seeking to slip into America with officials papers under official protection, and sitting down to write with a beautiful gravity, 'I am an anarchist. I hate you all ans wish to destroy you.' Or, 'I intend to subvert by force the government of the United States as soom as possible, sticking the long sheath-knife in my left trouser-pocket into Mr. Harding at the earliest opportunit.' Or again. 'Yes I am a polygamist all the right, and my forty -seven wives are accompany me on the voyage disguised as secretaries.' There seems to be a certain simplicity of mind about these answer; and it is reassuring to know that anarchists and polygamists are so pure and good that the police have only to ask them questions and they are certain to tell no lies. Now that is a model of the sort of foreign practice, founded on foreign problems, at which a man's first impluse is naturally to laugh. Nor have I any intention of apologisting for my laughter. A man is perfectly entitled to laugh at it as incomprehensible, and then criticise it as if he comprehended it. The very fact of its unfamiliarity and mystery ought to set him thinking about the deeper causes that very fact of its unfamiliarity and mystery ought to set him thinking about the deeper causes that make people so different from himself, and that without merely assuming that they must be inferior to himself.
My interpretation of the quote is that for someone who is foreign to this country and has to apply for a passport application will be wondering how does the question pertain to that individual. It presumes that the clerk wants to know your country background and your beliefs. By making general questions on the application one can know if your Anarchist, which participant in anarchism. While a polygamist believes in many wives and atheist doesn't believe in any form of religion or goverment structure. Therefore the government of the U.S has the right to deny you of official documents.
I've chosen this quote because in today's society people are denied passport access due to a number of red flags while applying based on the answers to the questions.
