Benjamin Rush
"But let the young Negroes be educated in the principles of virtue and religion let them be taught to read and write and after wards instructed in some business, where by they may be able to maintain themselves. Let laws be made to limit the time of their servitude, and to entitle them to all the privileges of free-born British subjects. At any rate let retribution be done to god and to society."
Benjamin was just an ordinary man who saw the suffering of the slaves and he oppose slavery.while alive Rush fought for freedom for the slaves. He believe in the rights of education even for the Negroes which will help to improve the economy back then. Everyone has the right to free public education. He fought for them the right to gain knowledge thru reading and writing. If they were able to maintain their servitude their liberty will determine their way of life. He was also strong on black religion.
I choose this quote because some people don't take education seriously and we sometimes forget how important education is in this world where living in today. Our education will determine our children future for the next generation and will help to break struggles that our ancestor helped to create.
